Who is this for?

I-RIDE provides transportation for:

Adults 60 years of age and older
Individuals with disabilities who are unable to use fixed-route transit
Residents of participating jurisdictions in Hampton Roads

What does it cost?

I-RIDE offers affordable fares significantly lower than typical taxi or rideshare services. Current fare structure:

$2.25 per one-way trip (base fare for most routes)
Reduced fares may be available for Medicaid recipients
No surge pricing or hidden fees

Schedule rides in advance by calling the I-RIDE dispatch line
Tell us your pickup address, destination, and preferred pickup window
A driver arrives during your scheduled window and provides door-to-door service

How do I schedule a ride?

Call our I-RIDE dispatch line at 757-461-9481 at least 24 hours in advance of your requested ride time. Same-day scheduling may be available but cannot be guaranteed.

Scheduling Tips

For medical appointments, we recommend scheduling 1–2 days in advance. Call early in the day for the best availability. Have your pickup address and destination ready when you call.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I bring an attendant or caregiver?

Yes. A personal care attendant may ride free of charge when traveling with an eligible participant. Please inform dispatch when scheduling.

How do I qualify for Medicaid transportation?

If you receive Medicaid benefits in Virginia, you may qualify for no-cost medical transportation through the Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) program. Call us and we can help determine your eligibility.

What happens if my appointment runs late?

Please call dispatch as soon as you know your appointment is running late. We will do our best to accommodate your updated return time, though this cannot always be guaranteed for same-day changes.
